Foods That Help To Keep Joints Healthy

Chris Burke

Joint pain can be difficult to deal with and may, at times, require orthopedic surgery. However, if your condition is not yet critical or even if you have had joint surgery, there are some foods you can incorporate in your diet that will help to keep your joints healthy. Here are some of the best foods for healthy joints.

Cherries

Cherries not only taste great, they contain antioxidants that fight joint inflammation. Eat at least two servings a day to get the best results. If you prefer to drink cherry juice, then have at least two glasses every day. You can also eat blueberries or blackberries if you dislike cherries, since these berries also have inflammation fighting powers.

Oily fish

Oily fish contains omega-3 fatty acids which help to reduce inflammation. There are many different types of oily fish. The most popular are salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna. You should eat any of these fish several times throughout the week. If you do not like to eat seafood they you can take fish oil supplements to help reduce or prevent inflammation in your joints.

Whole Grains

Eating whole grains as opposed to the refined grains found in white rice, cereal and white bread are a great way to avoid joint inflammation. Whole grains are filled with fiber and this helps to reduce inflammation. However, when choosing whole grain foods it is best to read the label carefully, as not every food that is labeled whole grain truly is. In order to ensure that you are getting a real whole grain product, check the nutrition information on the label. The amount of carbohydrates should be far lesser than the amount of fiber in the product.

Almonds

Eating almond nuts is another great way to fight joint inflammation. Almond nuts contain high amounts of fiber, calcium and vitamin E, all of which help to keep joints healthy. If you do not like to eat almond nuts, then you can mix some almond milk with honey and have a glass of that daily. Almonds are not the only nuts that contain nutrients that fight joint inflammation, other nuts such as peanuts and cashew also help to keep joints healthy.

If you are having joint problems or have had orthopedic surgery then eating the correct foods will help to stop or prevent further joint inflammation. Eating at least some of the foods listed above throughout the day is a great way to fight inflammation naturally. For more information, contact a company like Orthopaedic Associates Of Rochester.
