Sleep Apnea Can Affect Every Area Of Your Life

Chris Burke

Sleep Apnea is often downplayed as nothing more than harmless snoring. However, sleep apnea is a medical condition that requires proper attention and treatment. Don't think so? When someone suffers from this condition, their entire life is affected.

Mood

Sleep and your mood go hand-in-hand. When an individual is tired, they are more likely to be short-tempered and easily irritated. When you're well rested, you typically feel better. If you have sleep apnea, your lack of quality sleep at night can cause you to wake up in a lousy mood and cause you to stay in this state throughout the day. The worst part of this is that you're likely to cast this energy on others around you, including your children.

Social Life

Are the girls planning a weekend spa trip or are the guys planning a golf getaway? For someone with sleep apnea, these exciting trips don't sound so great, especially if the plans include sharing a room with someone else. If you have this condition, you might feel uncomfortable sharing a room with someone else because of the noises you make while sleeping. Before you know it, you'll be backing out of trips and missing out on social engagements.

Overall Health

Sleep apnea will also affect your overall health, and not necessarily in a good way. Individuals who have sleep apnea are at an increased risk for developing other dangerous medical conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. To make matters worse, many of these conditions are further exacerbated when you don't get sufficient rest. When you pair this with the sleep irregularities sleep apnea creates, your health can quickly go into a downward spiral, escalate these health effects and possibly cause you to develop more conditions.

Work Performance

Sleep apnea will also affect your ability to perform at work. When an individual is not fully rested, their ability to concentrate will be altered. Instead of being able to easily focus on tasks at work, you might have a difficult time. Not only will it be harder to meet the goals you set for yourself, but in some instances, you might not be able to meet the goals your employer sets for you. When you aren't productive at work, you put your entire job in jeopardy.

If you or a loved one have sleep apnea, you can prevent it from having a negative impact on your life. Work with an ENT specialist to determine which sleep apnea procedure is best for you.
