Chronic Pain: Common Types And Treatments

Chris Burke

Chronic pain is generally defined as any pain that lasts for more than 12 consecutive. For people who experience this type of pain, it can be extremely frustrating. There are many different types of chronic pain, but there are four types what are the most prevalent in American citizens. Chronic pain treatment is available. Talk to your doctor for referrals to the pain management services nearest you.

Back Pain

Chronic back pain can come from a number of different sources including but not limited to: slipped discs, herniated discs, vertebral anomalies, or back injuries. There is much that can be done for individuals who are experiencing back pain at pain care clinics. Pain clinics can offer injections that will numb the pain, or in recent years a pain management pump has been invented. This pump is usually implanted within the body and then as the person feels pain, they simply push a button and medication is injected directly into the nerves or vertebrae that are causing pain. This pump allows for immediate relief from the pain.

Joint Pain

Another chronic type of pain is joint pain. This can be caused due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, previous injuries to the site, or injuries due to overuse. Some pain management clinics can offer physical therapy to help with joint damage. There are many medications that can delay the symptoms or treat developing diseases that attack joints.

Headaches and Migraines

Recurrent headaches and migraines can also be a source of chronic pain. This can come in a variety of manifestations such as tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches. Some individuals may even lose temporary eyesight as a symptom of their headaches.  What causes headaches? Headaches and migraines can be caused by stress, neck injuries, head injuries, hormonal imbalances, and many more things. If you are experiencing constant or recurrent headaches, a pain management clinic could help you to either prevent them or treat the symptoms as they come.

Nerve Pain

Nerve pain can take many different forms and often depends on the individual. It can manifest itself in the form of a tingling sensation in the body which could be due to a compressed or injured nerve. For some it is a constant aching, for others, nerve pain feels like a pins and needle sensation. Some nerve pain can cause weakness in muscles such as sciatic nerve pain. Sciatica, as it is called, can be experienced during pregnancy or due to other injuries. There are ways to treat nerve pain. While it can be a frustrating process to find what works on your specific type of pain, a pain management clinic can give you the tools you need to overcome your challenges.

In conclusion, no matter what type of pain chronic pain you are experiencing, a pain management clinic can help you to find the relief that you need.
